Cannot upload inventory spreadsheet - feed_product_type error
I am trying to upload new items manufactured by myself to the Amazon catalogue.
I have registered to sell without a GTIN.
I have downloaded the spreadsheet for the relevant categories.
Here is the relevant info from the upload template spreadsheet’s tabs:
BROWSE DATA TAB:
Browse Node BrowsePath
2790140031 Beauty > Fragrances > Women > Perfume Oils
118457031 Beauty > Fragrances > Other
2790127031 Beauty > Fragrances > Men > Other
VALID VALUES TAB: Product Type - [ ] personalfragrance beautymisc
In the template spreadsheet’s “Template” tab i.e. the part where the actual product data to be uploaded goes, the problem is with the very first column, aka:
Product Type
feed_product_type
In that column, l have tried the following:
personalfragrance
beautymisc
PersonalFragrance
BeautyMisc
Beauty
Nothing seems to work! The error l always get is:
8105 The data you provided for [gives SKU of the final item in my inventory but the actual highlighted area is the entire column, not just that last row, i.e. it affects every item] does not match the list of valid values. Please select a valid value from the Data Definitions and resubmit.
I have tried opening a case log. Nothing came of it. I have tried phoning and about 4 times in a row the phone call was mysteriously terminated.
Also l have been told to speak with the Feed Team. Also l was told the Feed Team will contact me forthwith.
I was also told that the telephone customer service agent cannot view my upload spreadsheet, and in my most recent call, l was told they cannot even view my case log.
There have been times when the phone call was drowned out by ambient noises.
This is not the Amazon l remember many years ago. OK so back to the point: is there anybody from Amazon’s Feed Team that could phone me and help me sort this issue out?

Have you checked EVERY value entered into the spreadsheet for a product against the list of valid values? You would only need to do this for one product in order to test, not the whole inventory. Hopefully this should flag the specific column with the issue.
We have had issues before where Amazon have thrown up an error which actually has nothing to do with the error message (for example it might say that there is an error with the product ID, when the error is actually with the size value)
We also had an issue once where Amazon spreadsheets stated that a value was required, but after a lot of contact with seller support they told us that one value shown as required actually wasn’t, and removing the value entirely resolved the issue.
I would also carry on contacting seller support. Sometimes it takes a lot of contacts and re-phrasing to get somebody to actually help.
Unfortunately listing on Amazon can be a huge problem when something does work as expected.
You would have thought that a multi billion pound company could have developed a system which isolates an error to a specific cell(s) and gives an accurate error message…

Your profile page is new therefore is this a new account ? If so, do you have approval for beauty category ?

How on earth do l communicate with Amazon on this?
The support tickets are ignored.
The phone contacts are honest-to-God surreal, unearthly, weird, and basically nothing to do with Amazon let alone my help topic.
This has become a very unsettling experience.

I have downloaded the latest Beauty inventory template file and the “feed_product_type” is: personalfragrance - no spaces no capitals. If you enable macros you simply choose the right one from the drop down list.
The issue you mention has nothing to do with brand registry, etc. Try downloading the latest file again, enable macros and select the right feed type. Good luck

Reply to all: randomly chanced on this topic l started.
In hindsight, l have this to say:
- Your experience may vary, maybe it depends on the product (l imagine listing books via spreadsheet upload would be a doddle?)
- BUT it seems with most products, Amazon’s upload spreadsheets are only good for updating what you already put up e.g. updating quantity, price
- What you already put up being listings you created manually (need to create many similar listings? Go to “Edit” dropdown menu —> Copy listing —> edit for each variant)
- So, forget the spreadsheet. I think it’s there to fox Mr. and Mrs. Spambot. The human sellers appear to know the deal: you list manually.
- The reasons for spreadsheet rejection may be frivolous as the preceding commenter explained. But whatever the reasons: forget the spreadsheet.
Can l get an Amen? Or do some people disagree and have positive experiences with the spreadsheet? I’m not really monitoring this thread but please do ad hoc it if need be.
