And here’s todays rant!
Selling on Amazon is not bad, it has lots of issues that you have to deal with, but if you sell the right products, at the right prices, you can make a lot of money on it!
Many many people make a living on Amazon.
What you need to do first, is to learn and understand how Amazon works. Research what your going to sell and only then, start to sell, when you have fully understood the costs etc.

I agree with this, amazon had been increased fba fees, it’s too high, sellers can not make earn profit on amazon, amazon will be not a good platform for sellers.

I think some people sometimes forget that you/we/I always have the option NOT to sell on Amazon.
Several peeps on here are very correct in suggesting if you are selling the right product. If there are 50 sellers of one product, why does the world need 51?
Amazon was not created as a god given right for every man and his dog to make money, it’s there to make Amazon as a business, a lot of ££$$. It should never be regarded as your main source of income, too many factors out of your own control.
As for the original post of Amazon undercutting a third party seller, FBA or not, it’s hardly breaking news! Survival of the fittest comes to mind.

Unfortunately this is one of the reason i bailed away from RA /OA 4 -5 years ago. unless your able to source a product not sold by a mainstream wholesaler, it will be a penny war to who owns the buy box!
I personally would invest the time in finding a new supplier or (someone who doesn’t trade on line) … or your alternative options are to buy the stock and hold on to if for a few months, and wait for the masses to sell out! or go the private label route and have no competition on your listings.

Not everyone has prime, and if they don’t Amazon charge delivery.
So you can actually still come in at cheaper than them for non prime users.
I have never got involved in a 1p race to the bottom, if someone undercuts me by 1p I just leave it, etiher people buy off me because I deliver faster, or they don’t, eventually the other guy sells out, or I just sell the items on the other site.
Amazon is perfectly good for many to make money, I am in a pretty saturated market (greeting cards) and still do quite well on here, although I also sell on the other site and have an actual shop. Keeping all your eggs in one basket and assuming Amazon will make you rich is mistake number 1.

Good advice Neil, would you go out and buy a shop and fill it with overpriced products you can’t sell?
No!.. and that’s why a lot of highstreet businesses have gone to the wall.
There is money to make on Amazon but it takes patience, expertise and lots of spreadsheets

Amazon will sell things near or below trade price, which is impossible to compete with. Brands will give them a good discount on products, heavy on lines that they want to clear.
You have to steer clear of this brands/products if possible to have any viability to remain on the platform.

Amazon built the platform to allow people to sell their stuff but then started to sell what others were selling. I understand the OP rant in some way, as its not a fair business model. I would agree for Amazon to sell certain products case they weren’t available from any other seller.
This.

you need to be looking at the data behind the products… on keepa or selleramp…
these will tell you, what has been the price for sellers with new/used and amazons price over the past few months, will also tell you how many estimated sales per month…
using this information, you can decide whether it is worth it for you… i.e you want, high sales with a consistent price,

There are opportunities on Amazon.
You have to balance this with the aspects that are not fair or market driven. There are many many examples of this. Amazon charging twice the fulfillment cost for putting 2 items in an envelope, Amazon disappearing your product in the search engine if it is not using FBA, absurd A to Z decisions which are not justifiable and not removing demonstrably and provable false feedback etc etc.
It’s a good platform for selling generally speaking and it’s easy to use. But let’s not pretend it’s a perfectly fair system and everything is fair and above board just because it’s a private company.
