Issues claiming back VAT from Prep Centre
Morning,
We have recently had invoices rejected by HMRC that we are claiming VAT back on from our prep centre for the rework (labelling etc) as it’s a service. Our accountant is doing some further investigations but I thought I would find out if anyone else has had a similar experience. I believe we can claim back for the storage costs but not the rework costs. Is this correct?
We are also just about to start doing FBM with the prep centre, we are FBA only at the moment. I have asked the question whether we can claim back the VAT on postage and our accountant is double checking this. Again, I thought I would ask if anyone here has any experience in claiming VAT back from their 3PL for postage costs as-well?
I am not looking for any VAT advice, our accountant will provide this and is doing some further research. However, it’s more out of curiosity as I am very surprised I cannot claim VAT back on the rework the prep centre does.
Many Thanks in advance.

When you mention Prep Centre, you are not very clear if this is a 3rd party prep company or Amazon’s own services.
Not that I can give you tax advice but I thought you should make this clear in case someone knowledgeable comes along.
As far as I know, you can locate all Amazon invoices in the reports->tax library tab.
I have no idea how it is with a 3rd party service provider but would imagine they should provide an invoice or a receipt for their service.

I have just been informed by my accountant that we cannot claim it because we are a non UK company. However, their response was "I am still reading up on the law but a UK company can yes - not 100% convinced that you can’t claim it "
