VAT exemption - charged VAT on fulfillment

Hi All,

We have been trading for around 2 years on Amazon and have VAT exemption (nowhere near threshold). I noticed on another thread that we are not required to pay VAT for seller/fulfillment fees if invoiced from Lux?

Do we have to claim it back as we get monthly invoices showing VAT payments on these services or should it be/is automatic and we are reading the information incorrectly? If we have to claim back how do we do that, we have looked on setting etc but found nothing?

TIA for any support.

You aren’t really exempt from VAT just because you aren’t near the threshold. In any event, you would need to open a case with Support who will request evidence of you being a business. They’ll then take something between very quick and very slow to do things at their end.

And if you are successful in claiming your ‘exemption’ (which as demel said isn’t actually an exemption) you need to speak with an accountant about correctly recording any refund received and going forward, using the relevant figures to calculate VAT threshold (which will change with this ‘exemption’) as the reverse charged invoices are now added to turnover so previously, £70k turnover would be ok, after exemption with amazon invoices added, it may push you over the registration threshold
