5665 error message - seller support not helpful
I seem to be having great difficulty doing a simple thing like listing a product on Amazon and seller support seem to be incredibly unhelpful.
I recently learnt about the GTIN exemption route and as a first time seller, I thought it would be sensible to use this route to list a couple of new products but under my brand name. The only reason I wanted to follow the GTIN route was because I was getting frustrated about adding a product to the Amazon catalogue with a UPC code and then finding that this product and UPC code are permanently logged in the Amazon catalogue and it’s not possible to re-use the UPC code or delete the product, even if you never intended to sell it etc but just wanted to load a dummy product to test for any specific approvals Amazon might have.
Anyway, long story short, I submitted my images of my products with the brand name and images of the packaging clearly showing that the packaging did not have a UPC code printed but it did include stickers on the packaging of my brand. Amazon shortly afterwards sent me a confirmation email confirming that my brand was approved for exemption and that I could simply enter the brand name when listing a product and not assign a UPC.
However, when I now do that, I still get a 5665 error message and Amazon seller support keep telling me that I need to register my brand and have images of my brand permanently affixed to the packaging or product. It’s like I’m going round in circles. There are many products sold on Amazon where it’s just not practical or possible to permanently affix your brand to the product or packaging, many people use labels. I’m quite happy to just buy up cheap UPC codes and assign those to my products instead and enter N/A for my brands but I thought getting the GTIN exemption made more sense and would be easier. Anyone else having the same silly experience. What annoys me is they approved my brand for the exemption but then still tell me I’m not approved. Surely there can only be one reality? It’s driving me mad trying to do something simple like list a product for sale.

Hi it can be frustrating at times and it sounds like your having a couple of issues so I will try and explain as much as I can.
Brand - To add a listing with your own brand name appearing there are two ways around this;
1 - Buy a subscription with GS1
2 - Brand Register - with BR you can add EAN’s still from GS1 if you wish to do so or you can apply for UPC exception providing the product meets the requirements - https://sellercentral.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/help.html?itemID=G200426310&language=en_GB
As for packing your 100% correct some items cant be printed for example we have one item its our brand its in a snap bag with a label to keep the cost down, however depending on item it may require specific labeling such as Health & Beauty items etc.
*If you were listing a brand using UPC exception the brand and manufacturer on the listing side must both be the brand name you registered in BR (unless manufacturer is already registered on here)
*If you just wanted to list the item as Generic (none Branded) you would simply put N/A or generic in both the brand and manufacturer parts.
*My comments on the last two points may be slightly off as we list with Brand only using BR and GS1.

Thanks Peter for the help and support. To be honest, I just find the Amazon seller support to be really poor and unhelpful. I’m new to selling but my experience so far with seller central has not been great. There seems to be a lot of people working there who don’t know the rules themselves and who just ignore your requests for help or send you messages asking for the same thing you have provided already. If they treated their customers like they seem to treat sellers then jeff would be worth an awful lot less money.
Can I ask how you find selling on amazon? I’m hoping to turn a reasonable income from it once I get started. Is it something you do as a hobby or a full time thing or somewhere inbetween?
