I was wondering is there any way to check a products potential restrictions before listing?

Do you mean in terns of Amazon gating the category / brand, or in terms of having things like safety documents? If the former no, if the latter then you do research.

Edit - just remembered that the Amazon seller app can tell you if you are gated on an existing product.

Did you have a look at Help Pages in Seller Central? Depending on the type of products you want to list, there are Help Pages dedicated to the restrictions.
