Who is responsible for ASIN accuracy?
Hi,
Who is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of product detail pages on an ASIN?
For example, if I change the product detail page of an ASIN to represent an unrelated product and it was reported, who would get the policy violation, me or the seller who created/sells on the ASIN?

Whoever creates the ASIN has control however if you are on the same listing you have equal responsibility to ensure the accuracy; you are selling under that ASIN after all. However you just can’t rectify as easily. On paper it isn’t as simple as that and actually it can be such a pain to amend or report things.

Technically to change an ASIN you also have to be selling on that Asin so you couldn’t change any random listings.
So if you changed it and it was reported, all the sellers on there - including you would get the policy violation

You can’t. To make changes on a listing that you did not create has to be approved by the originator or Amazon. From experience it also seems that when you suggest a change; the originator will probably most likely ignore you. On the rare occasion you the Brand owner in this instance, it would be alot easier.

Sellers are prohibited from practices that lead to incorrect product detail pages/incorrect variations/ the creation of new ASINs for products that already existed in the Amazon catalog/product detail pages in the wrong category.
Have you submitted your Plan of action (incorporating in detail the root cause, corrective measures and preventive steps take to make sure this does not happen again)?
Below are some insight to take into consideration when writing your appeal:
- Root cause: Was there a business gap that led to these issues?
- Corrective measures: What did you do to correct the issue?
- Preventative steps: Here is where you put forth a step by step plan to ensure the root cause does not happen again. Were there any improvements to your business practices?
If you are unable to identify the above scenarios and would like to dispute if the error had taken place from your end, you may dispute this with supporting evidence with the Seller Performance team.
