Sole trader VAT exempt

Hi,

I’ve opened as seller account as a Sole trader and filled out the required documents. Include registering as sole trader/UTR number, I also attached my letter from HMRC with UTR details. But when trying to register as VAT exempt, I have been asked for additional information.

Amazon have asked for Certificate of Incorporation or a copy of a previously filed tax return proving Sole trader status.

As I am new business starter have not field any tax return yet. It would be in January 2015.

How would I provide these as a new seller? I checked online that HMRC UK do not provide any certificate proving my status as a Sole trader. They just provided UTR letter post submitting self assessment application.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

You are aware that being vat exempt as a sole trader just makes you exempt from the VAT on the seller fees. You still need to pay VAT on advertising costs etc.

Is that a typo 2015, or have you not done any tax returns since starting in 2015?? I would be concerned if the was the case...

As a sole-trader, and if you are under the VAT threshold, you can declare your VAT exempt status by going to Settings (cog wheel top right) and Tax Settings from the dropdown.

As above reply it only exempts you fro VAT on seller fees.

Am not sure where you live - ?UK, but if you do not live in UK and store goods in UK warehouses for FBA then you must be VAT registered as you are classed as a NETP.

I am having the same issue as a sole trader in first year of trading and meeting the threshold requirements to refund / exempt VAT on amazon fees

I have submitted my UTR letter multiple times however they will not accept this as proof
