EU Customs Charges even after IOSS
Hi guys, i have seen a few other posts on this forum in relation to this topic, but i wanted a more recent update.
We have been receiving about 10-15 complaints a day at present from customers in the EU informing us that they have been asked to pay a customs fee before they can have their delivery. All orders effected are below the 150 Euro threshold and we send everything correct via a multiple of carriers.
Main countries seem to be Germany, Austria, France however we have had complaints from most of the EU counties we supply into.
This is now resulting in a high number a-z claims and refunds.
Not to sure what to do. None of the carriers we use will accept responsibility either.
Our EU sales are quite high, if they were not I would happily turn them away.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it particular carriers or across the board?

It is likely you are doing something “wrong” if you are getting so many from different carriers. For example do you use Royal Mail at all?

We had a parcel come back from RoI (Ireland) after 2 weeks, rejected by customs. I have an account manager at RM. She investigated and found that we had done everything correctly. All the paperwork was correct for this low value (but high postage cost) product. Product value £6, postage cost Tracked and Signed £11.
We’ve turned off Ireland for MFN. Oh and Italy and Spain. They are all struggling with iOSS. EU implemented a law but never gave counties guidance with how to implement it. It’s chaos. Italy and Spain we having items stuck in customs for weeks. Lots of customer messages and constant complaints.
We’re now only doing MFN for UK, Germany and France.

Thanks for the input guys, is anyone having issues with EU countries such as Germany, Austria, France etc?
We turned of Spain and Italy many years ago due to a high volume of non received claims, financially not possible to send all goods tracked and we had about 50% non received claims into these countries regularly.
Is there a genuine issue or is it just with certain carriers? We use Royal Mail, DPD, Hermes, Jersey Post etc
