Customer refusing to Pay Import Duty
Hello
I sent a package to Canada and now the customer is refusing to pay the necessary import duty on the parcel.
Obviously this is not covered by EU consumer regs, in terms of return and refunds, but does anyone know how Amazon reacts to these things. If this comes back to me I am going to be about £40 out of pocket in carriage.

It they ordered it on one of the North American marketplaces then you need to pay the import duty. If they ordered it on one of the European marketplaces they need to pay the import duty.
If they don’t pay the import duty there’s not much you can do… They don’t have the item so are eligible for a full refund.

As @BarryM said, it will depend on the marketplace. If bought in Amazon.ca or Amazon.com then you are required to send all items duty-paid.
Canada’s import sales tax threshold is very low, comparable to the UK’s so goods of any value (with shipping added) will almost always incur sales tax charges.

Both Canadian and UK amazon help articles state that the buyer is responsible for customs fees for international deliveries.
That is one thing that you could point out to them.
If they decide not to pay up the fees that they own, you will have to issue a refund, as “the buyer has not received the item”, but be wary, there are 2 options:
*)Option 1, you have sent the order with tracking number - provide a refund only when you see that item is being returned back, “Unclaimed”
*) Option 2, you have sent the item without tracking, or the Canadian deliveries do not support your tracking - then you will be required to provide a refund. Some smart guys request a refund, and use those funds to pay for their items. Be wary.
