German company wanting to sell on Amazon.co.uk

Hi all,

I have used the search function, but couldn’t find a thread that answered my questions.

As a background; we are a German company currently selling on multiple Amazon market places in the EU. We would like to expand our business to the UK, but are running into a few problems/questions.

Since we don’t have an office in the UK, Amazon will take the VAT and declare it to HRMC. We will get paid the amounts without the VAT and the provisions for Amazon. How often do we get paid? And what will it look like? Will it be clear what amount is for what order? I think the general question may be what the accounting logic on amazon’s side is, so that we know how to do it on our side.

I hope there are other foreign companies here that can answer my questions

If you are selling on other EU marketplaces then most details are going to be just the same.

As you say, you will be remitted funds net of UK VAT. Payment reports etc. are all identical. The EU marketplace is harmonised so all operations in seller central are the same.

Disbursements of course will be in sterling. Assuming that is works the same as UK sellers in the EU, then you can choose to either have a UK based bank account and receive payment in pounds to then transfer back to you as you choose OR use an EU/German bank and have the funds remitted directly in Euros at Amazon’s exchange rate, which will be worse than you get at a high street bank.

As far as I am aware, even if you have a sterling account at your German bank, Amazon would still convert and remit the funds in Euros, they do not allow remittance of currencies across borders without conversion to the destination currency.
