Search Terms in Sponsored Products Auto-Campaigns Showing ASINs Instead of Keywords
Hi everyone,
I’m running a Sponsored Products auto-campaign targeted to Close Match. I’ve configured the placements so that impressions and clicks are coming exclusively from Top of Search and Rest of Search.
However, when I look at the search terms report, I notice that the search terms include some ASINs, not just keyword-based search terms. ASINs are relevant to my product, but I was expecting to see keyword-based search terms, not ASINs.
I'm interested in understanding how this is possible. Do you have any ideas about that?
Looking forward to your insights or advice on resolving this. Thanks in advance!

Hello @Seller_FoHTLj6VNpEIr- thanks for looking to the forums for some context on this.
You'll be interested in reading through this Advertising Help Page specific to the Search term report for Sponsored Products, which states:
"Note: In the column labeled customer search term, you may notice alphanumeric entries such as “b00ipgvvz4” in addition to more traditional search terms such as “phone case.” These alphanumeric entries correspond to ASINs and the related product detail page on which your ad displayed. You’ll only see ASIN-related entries listed as customer search terms for your Sponsored Products automatic-targeted campaigns and product-attribute-targeted ad groups. You can block ASINs through negative targeting, or bid for ASINs in manually targeted campaigns."
So in short, the ASINs displayed here indicate related products where your ad was displayed. There is the possibility to target certain ASINs manually or using the automated option when creating the ad. There is also the ability to block the ad from showing on an ASIN page, by using that ASIN as a negative keyword. If the ad is showing on too many unwanted pages for your strategy, the recommendation is to use the manual targeting, so you can specifically target the ASINs where the ad would display.
I hope this information helps, but let me know if it leads you to any further questions on the topic!
Best,
Danny
