SIOC (Shipping In Own Container)

I recently received bad reviews following some customers complaining about how Amazon received my products SIOC (shipping In Own Container) meaning Amazon have stuck their shipping labels directly onto my products (I sell DIY Crafting kits so a pretty little box).

Customers have been complaining that because the label is stuck onto the product, they can’t offer this as a gift (which I totally agree on).

After contacting Amazon, they tell me my products have ben deemed SIOC (Shipping In Own Container). I was never aware of this and I am not happy with this obviously.

This means my products cannot be gifted and because people have been returning this item, they are obviously non sellable…

Anyone has the same issue and is willing to offer some advice?

Yup… We have been arguing with Amazon for 6 months about this.

Our items are priced between £150 and £200 each.
They come in nice colourful glossy boxes with the item photo on the outside.

Amazon ships them with a sticker fixed on the side. No outer jacket cardboard box. They charge us a fortune in fees. The items get left outside of people’s houses due to social distancing measures and they regularly get stolen. If they don’t get stolen then the customer gets angry and thinks that we the sellers have shipped the product like that. They get disgusted and vent by leaving a 1 start product review with photos of their battered boxes. We can’t get the reviews removed and Amazon refuse to stop the SOIC on the ASINs.

If I could swear on here I would. It’s a complete disgrace.

If this was our problem (we left FBA some while back) I would get onto the Sadlers Packaging site (used once boxes) and source some custom size cardboard boxes larger than the item being SIOCd. Send it to Amazon sealed and stickered with the product inside the box. Remove the existing inventory if need be it will be better than losing the sales or stolen from doorstep stuff.

We are having issues with unwanted SIOC too lately.

Specifically, any return of a SIOC item is being deemed as “customer damaged”, even if unopened, because it can not longer to be sold to another customer.

Any reimbursement requests, explaining that the only reason the products are not re-sellable is because of Amazon’s SIOC designation, are being denied with the templated responses.

Has anyone had any successful reimbursement decisions in these situations and, if so, would be willing to share the argument/policy used?

Hate the system myself.

I Asides from the obvious damage to the box, a lot of these display boxes aren’t intended for being posted, one I received wasn’t sealed probably and all the contents had fallen out.

Now I make sure I click this is a gift in which case I get enough spare packing paper and boxes to open my own packing shop… it doesn’t rain but it pours…
