Source marketplace VAT issues

Does anyone here know how to change the source marketplace?

The support from Amazon in itself has not been helpful at all.

Our issue is that we started our account on the uk marketplace but were not really active on there.
Since brexit and the new rule changes it forces you to have a VAT number registered, which we sadly don’t have.

After trying to contact the HRMC and UK VAT GOV Department for 2 months now we are still stuck with the same problem.

The issue is that its a cycle, we can’t change the source marketplace due to the restrictions on our account, when we try to contact Amazon support they send us off to the UK GOVT, when we land at the UK govt we do not get a response.

If anyone has any experience with this issue, some help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Kavi,

Thank you so much for your response, I really hope you can help getting this fixed, the first one we got was this. Dear Seller,

The second was this

Dear Seller,

You may be legally required to be VAT registered in the United Kingdom (UK) based on Seller Central settings.

Under UK law, all online marketplaces must prevent non-UK businesses that are storing products in the UK from offering products for sale after the marketplace becomes aware that the business is not meeting its UK VAT registration requirement.

Once you place inventory in the UK, you will be required to be VAT-registered and to upload your UK VAT number to Seller Central within 90 days.

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is responsible for ensuring that all businesses meet their VAT compliance requirements under UK law. You can find out more about how the legislation might affect you by referencing HMRC guidance.

If you would like to see a list of tax advisers who can provide additional guidance, visit our VAT page.

Regards,

Amazon Services Europe S.a.r.l.

Are you referring to the Build International Listings tool by any chance?

When you set it up you can choose the Source Marketplace from a drop down. You may have to go into the tool, remove all existing connections then recreate the connections AFTER changing the source marketplace to Germany

I am wandering if because you have UK selected as the source, Amazon is assuming you have stock stored in the UK and hence the need to register for VAT

Unfortunately, as I said earlier, I think as you have setup UK as Source marketplace Amazon has assumed all stock must be in UK. This has caused the need to register for VAT.

You are now caught in a problem and the only solution I can see is to register for UK VAT and upload the number into Amazon. This may get your account unrestricted so you can then change the source marketlace.

Hello @ATELIER_REBUL,

Virgil here to assist.

Based on your post, we understand you have two major concerns, firstly changing the source marketplace.

You can change the source marketplace from which your target marketplaces are synchronised by following these steps:

  1. Follow the steps in Remove a connection using Build International Listings to remove connections for all target marketplaces. This may take up to four hours for each marketplace from the time you made the request. You will get an email when each removal request is complete.

  2. Follow the steps to create a new connection in Create a connection using Build International Listings, selecting the appropriate source marketplace.

The deactivation of your account might be one the reasons why you are unable to follow the above mentioned steps. Hence we recommend you to work towards resolving the reasons leading to the deactivation of your account.

All Sellers on Amazon Stores are required to meet the compliance requirements stipulated by
the law. VAT registration requirements vary from region to region in Europe, and you need to
submit a valid VAT number in a timely manner on the Stores where the VAT obligation is
generated, and make sure that the VAT number you submitted complies with the business
registration name on the Seller Central. At the same time, please keep in mind your account
number and password (if applicable) registered on the HMRC website to ensure that you can
manage it yourself and view relevant tax materials timely.

In this case, Amazon cannot resume your account until it receives an official notification from HMRC stating that your problem has been resolved.

If you face any challenges during the entire process, we highly recommend you contact our Partner Team team.

The forums community and I are here to support you. Please let us know how we can help you from this point forward.

Best Regards,
Virgil.

Please go through above help page to the ‘Documents’ section to access the PDF for more guidance on HMRC.

The forums community and I are here to support you. Do reach out if you need any further assistance.
