get used to it. Even with photo, signature (and amazon very much want a signature) gps, you’ll still likely lose an a-z claim for none delivery

This happens to me occasionally. You just have to accept it happens.
The only recourse is to send Amazon a letter before action and take them to the small claims court to recover your money.
I don't personally do this as my orders are mostly sub £20 and it is just isn't worth hassle for that amount.

We just lost yet another A to Z case where we provided tracking and the customer claimed non delivery.
What I found interesting was the comment Amazon added to the case when we appealed it.
"The customer reported an issue with delivery. In this case, the tracking information indicates 'delivered', but the customer did not receive the package. Because you provided sufficient information that proves the order was actually received by the customer, we will not count the claim against your Order Defect Rate."
So they concede that we provided evidence that the order was actually received by the customer but still took the money off us and refunded the customer, but hey it doesn't go against our defect rate so that's OK!!??

Get as much evidence from Royal Mail as possible as they sometimes have a word with the postman on that area. Present this when you appeal your A-Z and small claims them if the item is of reasonable value.
We don't tend to use Royal Mail for UK deliveries and use DPD instead and as a result, don't get any scammers.

Just had the same for a £450 item. If this happens again, it would cripple my business.

Do a Safe T claim. We occasionally get things like this and if Amazon refund the customer, we do our Safe T claim with evidence and get around 80% of the money back from Amazon. It's never not worked for us.
Or you can do a claim with Royal Mail, this is normally more for none Amazon related orders for us that customers say are not delivered but RM system says are, we've never had Royal Mail deny a claim of ours.
If you think the customer is at it, note their details and refuse to send to them again.
