Returnless Refund for EU Orders

“Effective October 05, 2021, if you are fulfilling customer orders for items under GBP20 (including VAT and shipping charges), sold on Amazon.co.uk from outside the UK, we request that for you offer either Returnless Refund or Provide a Domestic return option). If you do not provide Amazon with a default return address in the UK, Amazon will automatically issue the customer a refund on your behalf. In that case, where return requests fall within the scope of the Amazon Return policy, without requiring the customer to return the item to you (Returnless Refund). The above policy is also applicable to Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.it, and Amazon.es, for all items and orders under Euro25 (including VAT and shipping charges).”

I’m trying to understand this new policy which kicked in on 5th October.
From the above policy, my understanding is for all EU orders sent from UK:

For orders below 25 Euros qualifies automatic returnless refund
For orders above 25 Euros, I must provide a domestic return address (domestic in that country marketplace) otherwise it falls into Returnless Refund.

Has anyone encountered this problem, and how can you circumvent the problem (other than enlisting services of 3PL return company) ?

Well to be fair, it’s pretty clear.
If you don’t provide a local address, they will refund it.
Can’t really see any other way of getting around it tbh.

If you read the full policy they do offer a solution -

From their policy

If you do not have a default return address, our International Returns provider on the Solution Provider Network may be able to help.

Not having an international returns address means you will have to build into your costings the potential returnless refunds which is what those of us who sell items under £3.35 have to do for domestic sales

Just had the following go through as a “returnless refund”

Buyer is in Italy. I am in UK

Return Reason: Missed estimated delivery date
Buyer Comment: Very long wait. Need a refund.

Item subtotal: £0.98
Shipping total: £39.40
Refund -£40.38

I thought returnless refund was only for all items and orders under Euro25 (including VAT and shipping charges).”

The item was sent without tracking, but my concern is that it has gone through as a returnless refund when it should not have done.

Was the refund definitely given as a returnless refund? If the delivery date has been missed, it could have been refunded as an A-Z claim.

Just checked for the ones we have had so far. They are actually over the set value (£20/€25) including shipping price. So shouldn’t have been refunded from that alone. But also as they are not being returned from the home country on that marketplace.

Escalated to seller support, had a number of generic responses, then told it was escalated and would have a reply in 3 days. Today got a response - another generic one about Amazon being able to auto authorise returns. Completely ignoring the points I have raised.
