Read onlyI haven't sent a special delivery guaranteed for a while and when I did I took them to the Post Office. Now I would like to reactivate the Next Day Premium delivery but I get a Royal Mail collection. How do I prepare the special delivery orders for collection? I have found contradictory information, some say you just put them in tracked 24 bag, others say you need a green bag and special stickers and you should never put them in tracked 24 mail bag. I haven't found anything in the Royal Mail Supplies Shop, and under help. Anyone here who actually does it that can tell me what I am actually supposed to do? Thank you
The preparing your mail document from Royal Mail tells you to put it in a separate sack and tell the postie that you have a special delivery and they will handle it.
When we actually spoke to the postie about this he told us that was rubbish as if it was bagged up it wouldn't be prioritised. He said it needs to go to a different part of the mail centre. He said to just leave the guaranteed next days out of a sack and hand them to him so he can deal with it, they have a special box on the van to put the guaranteed next days in. Although this may just be a local way of working.
I wouldn't put it in a tracked 24 bag personally as I don't think they are prioritised the same way.
Probably one to ask your postie when you have one to hand over as it may well vary from area to area.
Our posties just told us to keep them separate and hand them to them when they scan the manifest. Since we never have more than 2 and very rarely even have 1, I've not been in a position to know what we'd need to do if it was too many for them to carry loose.
If we didn't have special bags for them, I'd use a regular sack, but use 4 of the thermal labels to make a space to write Special Delivery as large as possible on the sack.
When we used to give the collection driver our specials we kept them separate from the bagged mail and handed them to the driver, he told us that he had a separate bag in the van for them.
We now send them retail! So much cheaper that the amount we would pay on account, just means dropping them at the PO but another upside doing it that way is they now get scanned on receipt at the PO and not much much later when they get to the main collection centre.
We hand ours over separately, not in a sack.
Ive always put them in a sack on their own. I do close the sack with a tie to stop anything falling out but I do not label the sack, Never had any problems.
