WARNING! Suspicious Caller 0208 123 5555
Afternoon all,
I’ve just received a phone call from 0208 123 5555 to a telephone number that I do not believe is registered with Amazon ie it is our website phone number.
The caller said that they were from Amazon Customer Support and that they believed there was some suspicious activity on our account on Tuesday and that they believed it was from one of our staff trying to log in but that they needed to verify this with me by sending me a code (presumably to my phone) and then they would send an email with instructions.
When I asked what the IP address was of the attempted log in, he simply said that it had come from the registered business address on our account. Well, of course, they can see that information both on our website and our business seller details.
I told the caller I did not believe he was who he was claiming to be and asked several times for the IP address the attempted log in had come from. He could not or would not give me this information.
As we have 2 step authentication on our account, the likelihood of something being triggered as a suspicious log in attempt is, I believe, highly unlikely.
I simply kept repeating that I did not believe who he said he was and he said he was going to open a case in the case log to prove he was from Seller Support.
Well, that’s still not happened 5 minutes on.
Stay safe out there kids!

Just received a second call from the same chap. Couldn’t quite make out his name. David Goffy?
He didn’t even realise that I had spoken to him previously until I mentioned it.
I asked him to clarify his statements.
So he said someone in our office entered a verification code into Amazon twice wrongly at around 4pm on Tuesday and he said we should have received a text with the code. Interestingly, I have a device on which Authenticator resides which auto rotates the codes every 30 seconds or so.
Apparently, the case will be opened within 24 hours. I’d have thought it would be immediate if it is genuine.
The premise of the call is they are just notifying businesses that their account may be deactivated and you will lose sales. I replied, “That’s fine! Amazon will lose fees too”.
He remained very calm but he sort of chuckled to himself a few times which made me think he’s a bit over-confident as a fraudster would of course be.
I asked him what process he needs me to go through. He said he would simply send a code to my phone which I would then confirm back to him to verify my identity.
I don’t know at this stage whether this is a scam until the case in the case log fails to appear within 24 hours (let’s say 48-72 hours) and I don’t understand how it could even escalate to them getting critical information from you.
Clearly, anything like this allows a ‘genuine’ fraudster to build up information about you once they have gained your trust that they have sent a code to your phone. It’s reverse psychology, sort of.
Again, stay safe.
I see this has had views. Could people keep it bumping up the ranks by replying and help to keep others safe if this is a fraudster?

I received the second call back from the chap because I tried to call them back to see if they answered and they didn’t.
Of course, he didn’t know who I was and asked for the company name which, of course, I didn’t give him.
It would perhaps an idea to flood this phone number with phone calls not giving any details and they will no doubt call everyone back. Just keep them guessing and waste their time. Now that sounds like fun.
I’ll be mightily embarrassed if a case does appear in my Case Log but I doubt it will.
I will let you all know immediately though if it turns out to be genuine.

Still not case appeared in our case log.
Does anyone think I should raise this with Amazon? They ought to perhaps have a notification on their home screen in Seller Central?

I have received the same call from the same number.
As soon as he asked me for my number to send a text to, I said, I will give you the last 3-digits as if you are Amazon you should know it.
He then explained that he needs to confirm the full number and once I pass the steps, he will be able to tell me transactions to prove that he can see our dashboard (obviously after letting him in, why not!).
I received a text message showing from Amazon and within the same thread as other Amazon messaged with a link to: seller-securing-amazon.com - obviously a spoof link.
I advised that I will report him to Cyber Fraud as what he is doing is despicable. Prying on other peoples hard work.
Please BEWARE and report every time they call.
