Listing first Product - silly question

Hi, I have tried reading and researching but can’t find the answer to my silly question. I have created an individual account and I have a product I would like to sell, it has a barcode on the bottom. When I try and create a new product (as it doesn’t already exist on Amazon) I get the following error:

‘You are using UPCs, EANs ISBNs ASINs or jan codes that do not match the products you are trying to list’.

I’m not sure what this means - can I not sell the product I would like to? Thank you to anyone who takes time to reply. I think my question is too simple to even come up on the seller university help.

Sometimes this is when the Brand you enter is not correct, if you change the brand to be the correct one then this may resolve the problem.

Is this just one item, or have you bought in the stock to sell on ?
If the latter is the case then you should have an Amazon Business Seller Account, not an Individual Account (though you can be on the Individual,(Basic) Selling Plan where you do not pay the £30 a month fee), as the Individual Seller Account at is simply for people selling off their own second-hand items, not new.

look up the barcode and make sure the brand you are entering in Amazon matches the Brand on the barcode. you are not by any chance buying something then trying to put your own name to it.

That barcode is registered to Asda - so you are buying items from Asda to sell on here?

You know that is retail arbitrage and you can not sell them as new (as they have already been purchased by a consumer from a retailer so in Amazons eyes are now used). You may also need Asda and Disneys permission to sell them here.
