Titles in listings

I am having trouble editing titles for listings to incorporate keywords etc. I am getting a standard error of

'The value ‘(Title text) for ASIN Z in the Amazon catalogue. If this is ASIN ____’, update the value to match the ASIN data. If this is a different product, update identifying information (UPC/EAN/Part Number/etc). Learn more"

All I am trying to do is re write the title to include certain keywords, Can someone explain why I am getting this?

Is the use of commas between keywords causing the issue?

Also the product edit screen is appearing different options wise product by product, Can anyone shed light on that as well?

Any advice as always, very much appreciated!

It won’t let you change it because you aren’t “brand owner” or in charge (usually the person who created the listing)

Besides keywords are supposed to be in the keyword section, not the title. The title is supposed to be as short as possible and only contain the information people need to see what it is.

Commas are not needed in keywords, but again they need to be in the keywords box and not in the title.

Different categories often have a different layout, it appears amazon are updating as well, some are on the “old” layout, and some are on the “new” layout.

Youtube FBA listings “experts” are not really experts, they often give false information and incorrect advice…

You’d find your time better spent watching Amazons Seller University videos which tell you how to actually list products and follow Amazons rules and regulations.

I’m sorry but Dedez is incorrect on this one.

Adding keywords to your title is vital for the algorithm, however don’t keyword bash. Have a title that still reads well. Just sneak in your top 2-3 keywords.

Keywords are weighted towards the higher end of the listing.
Best keywords need to be in the title.

Less relevant keywords should be filtered down into the bullets.

Dedez is only correct in stating that Amazon prefer shorter titles and bullet points. Yea ofcourse they do, they are heavily customer based and only care how the customer reads the listing but this isn’t how the algorithm works, and frankly they don’t care if your listing never gets picked up by the algorithm. Amazon’s ideal situation is you resorting to PPC or off-amazon ads to bring new customers in.

Sorry Dedez your amazon policy information is not what OP is after here, it’s optimization OP wants so you are leading them the wrong way with Amazon university. That place really is useless if you actually want a converting listing.

It’s the epicentre for conflicting advice. All I would say is that if you study how the top selling items are titled and also how Amazon themselves title some of their own label ranges, you should get an insight at least into what is successful and what is permitted. One example of an Amazon brand title is " Amazon Brand - Happy Belly Ristretto Nespresso Compatible Coffee Capsules, 120 Aluminium Capsules (6 Packs x 20) - Rainforest Alliance Certified".

Regarding editing successfully, again it’s almost different by the day. We own most of our brands, and at times, it has been problematic to update those, though you do get there eventually. When you are selling a third party brand, even if you have an affiliation with it / the brandholder, it can be hard work. An example of this is that last week, we applied to launch a new product under a brand that we already sell. The selling application was declined, still shows as such, and invites us to “reapply”. At the same time, we received an email stating that it had been accepted and have since been able to list the product. I’m not ancient, but at school was taught how to interact with humans as opposed to AI. There lies the problem, but ultimately, if you want to sell here, you just have to accept Amazon for what it is. Personally, I much prefer it to dealing with the so called Big4, and you are given a massive audience, with something like 11m individual site hits per day. We just have to learn how to engage these customers, there lies the challenge…

Going back to the original question, I was getting this error yesterday because I had a space at the end of the title (I was copying and pasting it from notepad).

Amazon’s error messages rarely point you in the right direction, experiment with typing and saving the title bit by bit until you find the section that causes the error.

With regards to optimisation, there is a of good information on the Seller University and also on YouTube - the key is filtering through all the rubbish. If you hear good advice always check it against the TOS to make sure it is safe to implement.
