Best way to set up new brand
Hi guys!
So I currently run my amazon account on my own, just my one solitary brand in the UK and US.
Now I want to start up a second brand, with a friend (we will both be directors of the new company). Was wondering what the best way was to structure this in terms of making sure I don’t get my current brand/ seller account banned for something silly.
What is the best thing to do?
- Have my business partner set up an Amazon account with no connections to myself and operate it separately
- Get approval from Amazon to set up a second Amazon seller account in my name
- Start the new brand in my existing seller account, and use programs to separate the income when it comes to the accounting and financials
I want the method that brings the risk of getting my account banned down to virtually zero, even if it ends up being more complicated to set up. My key desire is to protect my existing brand as it’s my full time job.
All the best

You could just bring the new brand under the umbrella of the original company.
Your friend, can then have a small percentage of the company, or some sort of contract, for the new brand, excluding anything to do with the original.
From an Amazon point of view, it’s far safer.
Obviously it’s a bit of faffing to get it setup properly, but with the right contract, it should work.

Will both brands be selling in the same category?

Sorry for the misunderstanding. So to be clear:
-
I have an existing brand where I am the only director and employee, that will stay that way and I want to make sure that is protected.
-
I want to start a second project with me plus one other director, not related to the first brand at all. Basically launching a second brand but under a new company.
I am just looking for the best way to set up 2. without getting 1. banned/ suspended.

My misunderstanding. Then we’re talking about two separate companies, two different brands and two seller accounts (one for each company), with the only shared link between the accounts being yourself as a director of both companies.
Have I got it right, now?

Both will need to be separate ltd companies
Separate bank accounts
Separate logins
This is permitted but as stated, if one is suspended for any reason, the other will be too

Yes correct! Currently one seller account but looking for the best way to set up the new company. Sorry for the confusion re: interchanging brand and company!

Okay, well that would be the formation I would like best. I had heard online that if Amazon works out you have a connection to more than one seller account, they automatically shut you down.
I guess even if the second account/login was put in my business partner’s name, Amazon could check companies house and see I am a director, and subsequently ban both accounts? I imagine they can also use which wifi you’re logging in from as evidence. But perhaps setting up a VPN for when I log into the new account would fix that risk.
Seems like a lot of risk to do something which should be allowed…

It is permitted to have 2 accounts as long as you stick with the 3 Separate things as above, ltd company, bank account and login
Amazon state this is acceptable for different brands and manufacturing proccess
Amazon will know you are on both accounts anyway as they will verify all directors
Using a vpn opens you up to being linked with other accounts who also use VPN as there are only so many ip addresses to offer
As Neil stated, safest option is one account with a contract

Do the two not have to sell in different categories also ?

I think you’re right with this so have voted it as the solution on this thread. I don’t mind the faff at all, the safety of my existing brand is key so I think creating a contract with my friend and operating the new brand under my existing company is the best move. Thanks!

Thanks so much for your help! Very informative and clear

The only side issue with this is keeping my VAT under the threshold as if I keep the new brand under the umbrella of my existing one, it may push my VAT liabilities from the fixed rate of 6.5% to the much higher 20%. Perhaps there is a way to do it calls accountant

I think you are mixing up brand with company, which is what is confusing people.

I disagree with the advice offered in the thread.
Second company with second account is much much better than some sort of “contract”.
Just make sure to follow the requirements that Amazon is seeking which people have pointed out.
