Amazons Buy Box policy is killing sales
Noticed a huge drop off in sales, so been looking into why. One of the main things I’ve noticed is that Amazon seem to have tweaked their buy box algorithm, as so many more items are showing “see all buying options” button instead of the add to cart, even where there are over 10 other sellers on that item.
I think they must be enforcing their “competitive” price part of the policy, in an attempt to reduce the sale price. But all it is doing is confusing buyers, as they DO NOT click on the buying options button, they just move on.
Amazon, please stop twatting about with such basic requirements as a buy button on a listing page. Your system must always ensure that at least one seller has the buy box, otherwise buyers are just not buying.

I have noticed this recently as well. Another genius move by Amazon.

Amazon used to have a link on the page that said ‘Available From These Sellers’ when no one qualified for the buy box. This was removed about this time last year and has a huge impact on any item where there is no buy box.
The buying options box they have just makes it look like there are no sellers of the item, it is totally misleading to the customer.
I had lots of issues with not having the buy box last year and reduced sales. It was one of the reasons I decided to become a FBA seller…
I really don’t see why Amazon can’t always show a buy box even if the price is deemed not to be competitive. It is surely up to the customer to decide if the price is competitive and they want to pay it.
It is also not enforced very well, I had a pair of pyjamas I was selling for £9.99 and another seller then got the buy box but their offer was £29.99 (overpriced for the market and style). Why was their price deemed competitive at £20 more than my offering?

I have to say I HATE the buy box (though I rarely buy anything on Amazon anyway, these days) - just my opinion (!)
The buy box gives an unfair advantage to that one seller (even if they do rotate it) - as sellers we should all have the same chance of selling our items, and giving the customers choice.
Customers should be able to see all of the offers available all of the time.
Maybe I have a very naive and simplistic view, and it is not so relevant in my category, but then again it is, when Amazon give themselves the buy box yet say ‘Currently unavailable’ - which as you say:
Do away with the buy box and have a big button to ‘See all offers’.
